Surge Arresters keep satellite and cable TV systems safe. Created for 75Ω coaxial cable systems, it offers an excellent shield against fatal high voltage. The surge current rating of the TVS is 20kA which provides a credible way through which the excess voltage is discharged to the ground. Surge Protector for Appliances stabilizes the system. Also, protects it from unnecessary damage that can be expensive. High-quality, long-lasting, and indispensable for the protection of sensible equipment against electric discharge and voltage fluctuations.
What is a Surge Arrester?
A surge arrester is a protective device that is used to limit the voltage of power systems and equipment from any danger of being damaged by an overvoltage. A low value offers therefore a quick response to capture and minimize transient overvoltages while safely conducting the excess current to the ground. These help avoid equipment damage and also promote the reliability of power systems. They are commonly applied to protect high-voltage and low-voltage electrical installations.
Working Principle of Surge Arrester
A surge arrester works when the internal resistance and inductance of the device are varied. Under normal operating voltage, it is held in a high impedance state. But in the case of an overvoltage situation, the protected port instantaneously shifts to low impedance thus allowing the excess voltage to be safely grounded. This mechanism does well to safeguard the equipment against overvoltage while maintaining system stability.
Classification of Surge Arresters
- Zinc Oxide Surge Arrester: The most popular type, suitable for low- and medium-voltage applications.
- Composite Zinc Oxide Surge Arrester: Combines zinc oxide arresters with insulators, making it suitable for high-voltage systems.
- Metal Oxide Surge Arrester: Incorporates metal oxide as a core component, offering higher energy absorption levels and enhanced protection.

Applications of Surge Arresters
- Power Systems: Protects circuit breakers and other equipment from overvoltage stress caused by faults.
- Communication Equipment: Safeguards telecom equipment, telephones, and communication lines against lightning and power surges.
- Industrial Equipment: Shields electrical machinery, control circuits, and instruments from overvoltage disturbances, enhancing performance and reliability.
