What is a Surge Protector?
A surge protector is an electrical gadget intended to safeguard equipment from high-voltage currents associated with a variety of conditions including lightning. It works in a way that it does not let the input voltage rise to a level that will cause the equipment to be damaged but rather clips the voltage and feeds this to the ground. Working Principle of a Surge Protector
A surge protector operates on a simple principle: when an attempt is made to pass increased voltage in the power supply, it carries this excess voltage off the normal circuit path. The surge protector conducts the overvoltage to itself and/or to another load, assuming a different phase from the unit being protected.
